Chimney Sweep Dublin › Birds' nests and blockages
Birds' nest removal in Dublin
Clearing old nests, fallen debris and blockages that stop a chimney drawing.
Free and no obligation. We pass your request to an independent local chimney sweep covering Dublin city and county.
What to know
Jackdaws and other birds often nest in chimney pots, and a nest can block the flue completely. Signs include sticks or straw falling into the grate, a fire that won't draw, or smoke coming back into the room.
Wild birds and their active nests are protected by law in Ireland, so a nest with eggs or young birds in it generally has to be left until the birds have left. Old, empty nests can be cleared, and a cowl or guard fitted afterwards to stop birds returning.
Never light a fire to try to burn out a nest. It can set the nest and the soot behind it alight, and blocked smoke can fill the house.
